ME Recovery Stories - Sølvi (Norway)

Before I went to see Amir in Wales I´d been suffering from ME for 7 years. It was my husband who made me go to Wales, he took a week's holiday to drive me there and to support me. It was a 15 hour drive and I am glad we had a couple of days to recover before the course started.

After my first day of the course both my husband and I noticed the difference. I felt that my energy level was much higher than it had been for a long time. My husband noticed it by some signs like my eyes where not red as they used to be when I had been doing something during the day, and I did not have to rest for a long time.

The next day I felt even better and we went for a walk up to the beach cliffs and that was the first of many nice trips I´ve done over the last couple of months. I have started training again - swimming, cycling, walking in the mountains, Pilate's and working out in the gym!

Now in January I actually noticed that I´ve been training 4 times a week, and on the evening after the 4th training my body was tired! Even though I loved being able to train again, I realised that perhaps 2 times a week was enough for these first months =) It's a bit hard, but I have to have some constraints on myself.

Socially I have started to commit myself to different groups. This was a big step for me. Earlier I didn't know how I would feel the next day, or even the next hour, so I was very afraid of planning anything ahead. Now I can make appointments days, weeks and months ahead, no strings attached! Good for both my friends, family and me.

One of the greatest improvements in my daily life is concerning my nutrition. Before the course in Wales I did not eat anything containing gluten/wheat, milk and was very careful with sugar, sweeteners, caffeine etc. Now I eat everything I want! I guess I don't have to say how much easier my life has become!

The most important difference is that I am not concerned anymore. I don't think I was aware of it, but a lot of the time I used to concern myself with how things would/could turn out. For example; I am pregnant, so instead of following the plan we had before Wales with having an au-pair that could help me/the baby all the time, we will now be a "normal family" with me taking care of the kid during the daytime while my husband is working. I am pretty sure it will turn out fine! I know I might be tired, as are all other mummies to newborns, but I know this will not lead to a relapse. Instead of worrying, I now look forward to greeting this newborn life.

Today my husband and I went cycling. We found a restaurant around 8 kilometres from home. I could eat everything on the menu. We had a really nice time and we made plans for the future. On the way back we chose to take a new road back home. It turned out this way was a bit longer, but it was a way that none of us had taken and we saw allot of nice views.

Thanks to what you teach I am able to take the more interesting and unpredictable ways home. I am sure it will bring a lot of nice surprises.

Thanks!

Sølvi
